Students will be introduced to the different kinds of stories common in three traditions of Florida folklore: African-American, Florida Cracker, and Seminole. For example, some tales teach a lesson, others explain traditions, and many tales explain the origins of animals and plants—even people!

Students will be introduced to the different kinds of stories common in three traditions of Florida folklore: African-American, Florida Cracker, and Seminole. For example, some tales teach a lesson, others explain traditions, and many tales explain the origins of animals and plants—even people! Students will learn the techniques of telling, such as using voice and mime to develop characters and build suspense. Students will have the opportunity to tell a story with the techniques they learned at the during the class.

Students will need to bring a pen/pencil and paper/notebook

Students must be 12 years of age or older

Minors must be accompanied by an adult.
