The first installation of Phase II has begun! The mural featuring the schoolhouse has started to be installed as well as our interior signage. We're excited to be able to share with you these sneak peaks of the upcoming schoolhouse and Robert Sailors exhibit.
The Sailors exhibit features a built in area for kids (and adults if they wish). Check out the stools—they have Pip the Pelican on them!
Next to the kids corner of the Sailors exhibit is the "More than a Museum" collage mural featuring some special photos and newspaper clippings from the history of the schoolhouse. This mural designed by Charity Meyers was inspired by signal flags.
The mural is actually wallpaper giving it extra durability to withstand visitors for many years to come.
Besides these elements we now have front entryway signage as well as signage into our "Captain's Corner" which features the Banks collection.
After Thanksgiving we will be welcoming our new gift shop desk, the installation of the new built in bookcase and the "aquarium" built in case to exhibit preserved sea specimens.
From all the staff and volunteers at FMM, we wish you a very Happy Thanksgiving!
The permanent exhibit portion of the "Re-Imagination" project is sponsored in part by the State of Florida, Department of State, Division of Cultural Affairs and the Florida Council on Arts and Culture (Section 286.25, Florida Statutes) with matching funds provided by the Friends of the Florida Maritime Museum.
